DDGS stands for Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles, which is a co-product of ethanol production from maize (corn) It is produced by fermenting grains to produce ethanol, and then drying the remaining mash residue. This product is rich in protein & fat content and is a top choice among the cattle feed manufacturers.

Uses:

  1. Animal Feed: It's rich in protein, oil, energy, and fiber, making it a valuable nutritional component in livestock diets.
  2. Cost-effective Alternative: As a byproduct of ethanol production, DDGS maize offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional feed ingredients. Its availability and relatively lower cost compared to other protein & oil sources make it attractive for livestock producers looking to optimize feed formulations while managing costs.
  3. Energy Source: Apart from protein, DDGS maize also contains a significant amount of oil, primarily in the form of carbohydrates. This energy content makes it a valuable component in the diet of livestock.
  4. Improved Digestibility: Through the fermentation process used to produce ethanol, the digestibility of nutrients in maize is enhanced, making DDGS maize a more digestible feed ingredient compared to raw maize. This improved digestibility contributes to better feed efficiency and overall animal performance.
